I love bull sale season! I love the process of researching and evaluating potential bulls. This gets me hyped up for the possibilities of the next breeding season and the benefits a new bull will bring to my herd. I can picture how a new bull will compliment my cattle. I go through all his strengths and weaknesses to make sure I am getting the best possible mating.

After bull sale season, there is a letdown. Whether I bought a bull or not, the research and anticipation of a potential new purchase is over. All the time I spent on this endeavor comes to an end and I must find something new to fill my time (not that there is a lack of things to do!).

Seeing all the familiar faces at the PCC® sale and hearing their stories of another year helps get my batteries recharged. The pre-sale meeting with PJ Budler was especially inspiring. Evaluating bulls with PJ just before the sale was a special treat. To be a part of such an enthusiastic group is energizing. It’s an exciting time to be in the beef industry!

Now it’s time to get back to work and start putting things into practice. I have another month or so before I can start researching bulls again for the Price-Rollback Sale. I will use that as motivation to get things caught up so I have some extra time to do more research.
