Last week, I talked about doing the things that make you come alive. To “come alive” means to follow your dreams, to make your dreams into goals, and to work towards achieving those goals. I also said stop settling for what’s available and start chasing what you want. This week I want to preface that a little bit.
Dying Breed shared some thoughts on excitement and stability in their weekly Sunday Firesides that made me think. Personally, I love the excitement of new ideas, running down new leads, and discussing new concepts. Excitement is a great motivator. Think of new love.
We all know new love doesn’t last forever. A successful relationship moves to the next level, which involves some form of stability. Generally speaking, as stability increases, uncertainty and excitement decrease.
We need both stability and excitement in our life, but having both in the same thing is nearly impossible. Giving up stability for excitement is not wise. We can see where this leads to relationship problems. Stability is a great base to build from.
I want the excitement in my agriculture enterprises. I get excited when I learn new concepts, or see new cover crop combinations, or find new ways to boost my soil health. In livestock, I get excited with the potential mating combinations with my new PCC® bull, or in AI’ing to a great bull out of the PCC AI Sire Directory.
The unknown potential of a red or black calf, heifer or bull calf, and what that genetic combination will bring gets my blood pumping. Having to wait to find out until calving season is almost unbearable!
The point is… some things are meant to be stable, like relationships, and some are meant to bring excitement, like PCC® genetics. Wisdom is learning to manage this balance.
