I am currently evaluating bulls at PCC headquarters in Colorado. It’s been hot. The bulls look good, and I got a good start on my sale research.
Bull workdays give me a chance to network with other PCC® cooperative producers and customers. This is invaluable. We all need to take time to recharge and surround ourselves with positive, like-minded people. This was all of that and then some.
PJ Budler’s presence at the bull workdays this year was a real treat. We learned a few new terms like “devil’s grip” and “scrag.” Devil’s grip is PJ’s term for bulls that fall off right behind the shoulders. Scrag is PJ’s description for thickness where the crest meets the shoulders. We also learned about weak-jawed bulls. We put PJ on the spot a couple of times to settle disputes over some scores. He is a real trooper and took our teasing in stride.
We usually spend as much time heckling each other as we do evaluating bulls. It’s a great teambuilding exercise (I think that’s what it’s called). Even the potential customers that came to watch got a good laugh from all the sarcasm.
Evaluating bulls at the bull workdays is one of my favorite things to do. I enjoy the crew, the comradery, the food and giving people a hard time. Where else could you find this much fun! Come join us at future bull workday!
