Skull shape is of absolute importance when evaluating cattle.
An animal’s head is the preview of what’s to come in the rest of the body. Length of skull, width of muzzle, strength of jaw, positioning of the eyes, shape of the ridge/poll, width between the eyes, fleshiness of the jowl, and hair texture. All of these aspects are indicators of hormonal balance, maturity pattern, body type, frame, temperament, skeletal width, tenderness, foraging ability, and so much more.
There has never been a good bull with a poor head, in the same way in which there has never been a good cow with a bad udder.
