I recently heard that 99% of the animal species have gone extinct. When I heard that, I immediately thought, “How do they know that to be true?”

When I did a Google search, I was told that there are written descriptions for 1.5 million animal species. That’s good science! Google went on to say, “It is believed there are 8.7 million animal species.” Maybe yes, maybe no. How do they know that to be true? They don’t!

In another Google search, I was told that scientists estimate that 99% of all animal species that have ever lived are now extinct. Once again, I ask, “How do they know that to be true?” They don’t! How do they know it’s not 20%, or 40%, or 60%? They don’t – and they never will!

Let’s use their numbers and do the math. We know there are at least 1.5 million animal species in the world today because we have written descriptions. If 99% of all the animal species that ever existed are now extinct, how many animal species are extinct? The answer is 148 million! This is faulty science! It is based solely on a ridiculous guess.

According to Google, there is solid evidence that 905 animal species have gone extinct. That’s good science! What gives anyone the right to say there are 148 million extinct animal species? No one has the right to make absurd statements like that – no matter how many degrees they have.

What is science? Science is a systematic, evidence-based pursuit of knowledge involving the observation, identification, and experimental investigation of natural and social phenomena. Claims that are based on nothing more than hopes, wishes, and guesses are NOT scientific! They are nothing more than faulty science!
