We tend to complicate things. We think our problems require sophisticated and expensive solutions. We pay lots of money for someone to diagnose our problems and provide solutions. From doctors to phycologists to “experts,” we want answers!

What if the solution were simple and easy to accomplish? I’m sure people would be lining up to hear it! Or would they?

Human nature tends to give less credence to simple solutions. We somehow equate worth and effectiveness with complex and difficult. Simple solutions are not for us, we postulate, because we are not simple creatures!

Shane Parrish shared something along these same lines this week in his blog:

“A lot of problems persist because the solution is too simple to take seriously.”

Whatever our situation, learning to do the simple things consistently will help us be successful. Things like calving in sync with nature, practicing rotational grazing, buying low input bulls, not making excuses for cows, stockpiling forage for winter, etc. These practices may seem overly simplified, but when done consistently, they help achieve the goal of a profitable business.
