Life is full of transitions. We move to different jobs, different houses, and different life stages. Our family has been blessed beyond anything I ever imagined. Who would have thought two redneck high school kids would turn into something like this? Quite a transition, isn’t it? However, at our age, the next transition for my wife and I will be retirement. We are in the middle of transitioning to a partnership where we trade a share of our calf crop for care of our cow herd.

My wife and I recently visited our son, Jason, where he works on a big ranch in northern New Mexico. They are part of a management team that involves cow/calf production, custom grazing, big game hunting and horse breeding. He has a great job that he’s really good at, yet he would love to transition to his own business someday. At thirty years old with a young family, it looks like a far-off dream.

One of the things we’ve learned through the years is that each successful transition involves people helping people. Pharo Cattle Company® has been an important part of our lives the past thirteen years, helping us transition to a more profitable, sustainable business. We could not have done it without the help we’ve received from them. Our business has in turn helped others by providing food, jobs, quality breeding stock, and soil health.

Whatever stage of life you are in, I hope you’re involved in helping someone else build and grow through their next transition. I’ll see you next time on the Herd Quitter® minute.
