Cow-calf producers should produce cows that fit their environment – instead of artificially changing the environment with expensive inputs to fit their cows. Most of today’s cows could not survive without outside inputs. When cattle prices break, the cost of inputs will continue to go up. If you are unable and/or unwilling to significantly reduce your inputs, things could get ugly in a hurry when cattle prices drop.
