I spent the first part of last week at bull workdays at PCC® headquarters in Colorado. The weather was great, but I still needed my muck boots because the BS was getting deep!
This was a great time to look at some of the best bulls in the industry. I always enjoy working cattle, but it’s nice when you are surrounded by people who can challenge you on every evaluation. Nothing makes you analyze your response better than a little criticism. It also helps me see things I might have missed and better develop my evaluation skills. Conflict is necessary for growth!
This also gave me time to network with other PCC® Cooperative Producers (CPs) and potential customers, when I wasn’t evaluating bulls or joking around. I jokingly called this “bonding time.” Apparently, Kit doesn’t like to “bond.”
We even got a few comments on how good we worked together. There was no yelling or screaming and Rob only stomped on his hat once. I’ve always said, the best way to get to know someone is to work cattle with them. That’s when our true self comes out.
Evaluating bulls at the bull workdays has to be one of my favorite things to do. I enjoy the crew, the comradery, the food and giving people a hard time. Where else could you find this much fun?
