Christmas is almost here! I hope you have taken this time of Advent seriously to prepare your hearts for the coming of Christ. We are bombarded on all sides with distractions to the true meaning of Christmas.

The commercialization of Christmas is one of the biggest marketing schemes ever played on the people of the world. Don’t think for a second that this is by accident. The love of money is behind most of the negative things that we see in society. Christmas is no different, but I think there is a more sinister plot at work around Christmas time. Incrementalism is used to gradually remove Christian principles and ideals from society. This is done around Christmas by shifting the focus from Christ and towards the consumerism of buying and receiving gifts.

We were at the store the other day and the cashier asked my 3-year-old if she was excited for Santa to come. She said, “Yeah, and baby Jesus is coming!” I was so proud of her. Obviously, we talked to her about the true meaning of Christmas.

Take some time this Christmas season to reflect on the many gifts that have only come through divine providence. Smile, be cheerful, help your neighbor and know that God loved us so much that he sent his only son to take our place, that we may have enteral life! May God bless you, and may you know the true meaning of Christmas!
