Many things in life can be overcome with a little bit of hustle. This is a point of emphasis for many coaches. In sports, “hustle” doesn’t just set the pace. It intimidates. It gets in people’s heads. It’s psychological warfare.

Farnam Street shared a quote by Abraham Lincoln in their weekly blog on hustle: “Things may come to those who wait, but only the things left by those who hustle.”

In life, “hustle” looks more like thinking on your feet, taking advantage of situations as they present themselves, or getting started on that new project. We have more regrets from things we didn’t do than from things we did do.

Hustle is definitely an attitude. It’s this idea that I’m going to outwork my competition, even if I’m just competing against myself.

Most of us hustle to catch up. We are being reactive at that point and don’t have much time to plan. We need to work towards the hustle that’s pushing the envelope, that’s being a leader and that’s staying ahead. This is the hustle that makes progress!
