It’s the middle of wrestling season and I have kids that are struggling with consistency. They wrestle hard one week and place in a big tournament, then they don’t show up the next week and get put out. I was struggling with how to address this when someone shared a Facebook post by Seth Gross on the topic.
Although this is geared towards wrestling, I find this advice very helpful in everyday life. Here are some of the highlights:
“The only way to get good at anything in life is consistent work toward it. There is no shortcut. No hack. No magic tournament, camp, or private lesson that replaces showing up over and over again.”
I could see how this applies to marketing, selecting genetics, adaptive grazing and so on. The more time we spend doing these things, the better we become. This leads to the following:
“Consistency creates results. Results create belief. Belief creates motivation. It’s a loop.”
This is my favorite quote from the post. If you want results, you have to consistently put forth the effort until you get the result you want. Most people never get this far because it’s too hard. If there is one thing I want my wrestlers to learn, it’s how to put forth consistent effort, especially when things get difficult. This ability will set them up for success, no matter what they decide to do.
