PCC® customers only need to purchase half as many bulls as they used to purchase and most of those bulls will last twice as long as the bulls they used to purchase. With bulls selling for record-high prices, this represents a HUGE SAVINGS!

If you are using PCC bulls, you no longer need a bull for every 25 cows. Below is the long-held status quo recommendations for bull to cow ratio.

12 – 15 mo. old bulls 10 – 12 cows
15 – 18 mo. old bulls 12 – 18 cows
18 – 24 mo. old bulls 18 – 25 cows
24 mo. and older 25 – 35 cows

In nearly all situations, we recommend you double the number of females per bull. The larger the cowherd, the higher our recommended cow to bull ratio. For example, putting one bull with 50 cows might make us a bit nervous because he has no backup. Putting four Pharo bulls with 200 cows, however, does not concern us one bit.

Making the Change

Most cow-calf producers know their cows are too big and high-maintenance – but they are unsure of the easiest and best way to change their cowherd. Some want to sell their entire herd and buy back the right kind of cows. That, however, is much easier said than done. It’s not easy to find moderate-sized, easy-fleshing, low-input cows – and if you do find them, they probably won’t be for sale.

The easiest way to change your cowherd is to start with your replacement heifers. Purchase low-maintenance, calving-ease bulls to use on your heifers. Only keep replacement females out of those bulls. After two years, move those bulls to your cowherd and buy another set of bulls for your heifers. At the same time, we suggest you cull your tall, hard-keeping cows. You will be amazed… it won’t take long to completely change your entire cowherd.

Over 80% of our bulls can be safely used on virgin heifers. Many will be Guaranteed for Calving Ease! Once heifer retention takes off, the demand for calving ease bulls will more than triple. If you are going to need calving ease bulls, we suggest you purchase them this fall. BUY NOW and SAVE BIG! Come spring, you’ll be glad you did.
