Most cattlemen outside the PCC® network are in the dark when it comes to annual cow cost and other important factors at the cow-calf level of beef production. They will survive being in the dark until cattle prices fall. This video is only seven minutes long. It may be the best use of seven minutes of your time.
Oh my goodness, creep feed and lower stocking rates, Really? How about we do the opposite and manage the pastures better.
Good information, I would like to know the average age of those weaners sold that make up those weaning
weights as there is a fair spread on age weaned across operations these days.
Last year, I figured my costs/cow. With all expenses , except cost of owning land which is paid for, it was $8-900/cow. That has made $2500 weaned calves, $4000 bred heifers, $2-3000 cull cows, $5000+ bulls pretty profitable.
Must be 25 years since I last saw Dave Lalman, when he was in Missouri. He’s always been a good and practical guy.
Very good video! Lots to think about here.
